Dogasu's Backpack | Episode Comparisons | Movies

When Cartoon Network USA aired of Pokémon the Movie Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction on November 8th, 2014, about five minutes' worth of footage was cut to make the movie short enough to air in the allotted time slot.  This page documents those cuts.

It is assumed that this removed footage will be restored for the DVD release.

Cut - 11 seconds
After the opening zoom-in shot of the kingdom there's an eleven second series of shots of Diancie hopping through her kingdom as she's being chased by the Meleecie that gets cut from the TV broadcast version.

Cut - 3 seconds
After the Meleecie jump the cliff there's a three second cut of those same Meleecie running hopping around some more.

Cut - 23 seconds
In the Cartoon Network edit of the "World of Pokémon" segment the scene cuts to Satoshi and his friends as soon as Diantha and Wilkstrom let out their pokemon.  In the uncut version, however, we actually get to see the battle between the two.

Mega Hassamu jumps up...
...and charges forward!

But Mega Sirnight is able to get out of the way at the last second!
Mega Sirnight prepares a Moon Force attack.

The beam makes contact with the moon...
...and heads straight toward Mega Hassamu!

There's not enough time to get away.
Direct hit!

Mega Hassamu struggles to stay standing but eventually succumbs to its injuries.
Carnet and Mega Sirnight are the winners!

Cut - 4 seconds
A four-second establishing shot of Avignon Town is removed immediately before the start of the movie's opening theme.

Cut - 8 seconds
Some establishing shots of the cafe where the Rocket trio ends up kidnapping Diancie are removed.

Cut - 12 seconds
There's a brief conversation where Diancie tells Satoshi that he sure does like to eat.  The music in the dubbed version has a noticeable skip where this cut takes place (between Ash's "Eat all you want. There's plenty" and Bonnie's "'Kay, I'm gonna get some more.").

"Satoshi, you sure do eat well, don't you?"
"Eat well and sleep well...that's the secret to being full of energy."

"Pika Pika" "Denene!"

Cut - 12 seconds
There's another twelve second cut after Diancie and Eureka leave to get some more snacks, and there's another edit made obvious by the way the music skips in the dubbed version.

"Diancie has really good manners..."
"...and really seems like a princess, doesn't it?"  "You can say that again."

"They sure do have a lot here, don't they?"
"Yup!  Take as much as you like!"

Cut - 5 seconds
The shot of Hitotsuki hanging around outside the clock tower where the Rocket-Dan have taken Diancie is a few seconds longer in the uncut version.  The shot of the flour bag that was used to bring in Diancie is removed as well.

This shot is a second longer in the uncut movie.
Throwing the flour bag on the floor.

Cut - 4 seconds
The shot of Millis flying up to her father's airship is four seconds longer in the uncut version.

Cut - 31 seconds
In the single longest cut made to the entire movie, Millis scolds her father about how much chocolate he's eating.  The TV cut of the movie cuts away as soon as the dialogue tells us that the two are related ("Diancie's fine, Dad." "Excellent work.")

"Good job, Millis. Would you like some chocolate?"
"Dad, aren't you eating too much?"
"But they just came out with this new mint chocolate. I ordered it all the way from the Houen Region. And on top of that the cocoa used to make the chocolate is supposed to be good for your health."

"The addition of cocoa..."
"What I'm worried about is your body, Dad!"
"OK, OK, I got it."

"Down the hatch!"
*sigh*

Cut - 4 seconds
An establishing shot of the gang on the road gets cut immediately after the cut Argus / Millis scene.

Cut - 12 seconds
Some establishing shots of the camp that Satoshi and his friends have set up as well as a cute little scene of Satoshi and Pikachu are all removed from the TV edit.

Cut - 8 seconds
An eight-second scene of Eureka thanking Diancie for letting her keep the diamond it makes is cut from the TV broadcast.

"Thank you, Diancie."
*laughs*

Cut - 9 seconds
The last nine seconds of the girls' shopping get cut.  These show off a number of new costumes and an adorable scene of Eureka swimming on the floor of the dressing room.

"One...two...one...two..."

Cut - 7 seconds
Uschi, the character created for the sole reason of giving Uchida Atsuto a character to voice in this movie, gets cut out of the TV broadcast.

"Here you are." "Nice recovery."

Cut - 2 seconds
Citron's theatrical reveal of his ladder invention is two seconds longer in the theatrical version.

"Leave it up to me!"

Cut - 8 seconds
Serena and the others actually running up to the Saihorn farm and a shot of the Saihorn they're about to ride waking up is cut from the Cartoon Network broadcast.

Cut - 2 seconds
A two-second shot of everyone landing on the ground after Gekkouga gets shocked by Dedenne's Nuzzle attack is removed.

Cut - 19 seconds
This montage of just how long and far the Rock / Fairy-Types been traveling got cut from the TV broadcast.

*shivers from the cold*

Cut - 2 seconds
In the Cartoon Network edit we see everyone up to Serena climbing into the hole but in the original version we also get to see Eureka.

Serena:  "Where are we now?"

Cut - 11 seconds
The Meleecie explain how the underground tunnels are all connected to the Diamond Ore Kingdom.  This explanation gets removed from the TV broadcast.

"Each of the nations in our domain are connected through this Diamond Road."

"Meleecie~!"

Cut - 7 seconds
A seven-second reaction shot of Diancie after seeing just how bad things have gotten in the Diamond Ore Kingdom got removed.

"That can't be..."
"We brought you down here to let you know how bad it's gotten."

Cut - 7 seconds
A montage of our heroes walking outside before arriving in the tunnel that leads to the Allearth Forest gets cut.

Cut - 2 seconds
A two-second transition between the scene in the mountains (after Dace's story about Yveltal) and the scene in the Allearth Forest gets clipped away.

Cut - 11 seconds
As soon as our heroes spot Xerneas the legendary pokemon hops away.  Then, Diancie and the others chase after it.

Cut - 8 seconds
After Xerneas runs off Diancie runs after it before thanking it.

"Xerneas...I'm grateful."

Cut - 1 second
The TV version's missing a one-second shot of Riot taking a peek from behind a rock.

Cut - 4 seconds
You know what else isn't in the Cartoon Network airing?  This shot of Marilyn's Megayanma landing on the water, fluttering its wings a bit, and then flying off again.

Cut - 7 seconds
After Riot awkwardly drops Marilyn into the water there's a sequence where the thieves wonder what all the commotion's about.  It's removed from the TV broadcast.

"What's going on here?" "I don't know"

Hitotsuki:  "To~!"

Cut - 5 seconds
This five-second shot of Yveltal flying through the sky after using its Death Wing attack on Marilyn's Mafoxy and Megayanma is missing from the TV version.

Cut - 3 seconds
This shot of Nidangiru getting stoned (ha!) didn't air on American TV.

"Giru...gi..."

Cut - 5 seconds
After Marilyn and Riot are "killed' there's a shot of the forest continuing to wilt followed by another shot of Yveltal flying.  That flying shot is removed from the TV broadcast.

Cut - 2 seconds
This shot of Diancie calling out Majima's name after he gets hit by Yveltal's attack is cut.

"Majima!"
"Pika!"

Cut - 8 seconds
The arrival of the Steel family's airship and Satoshi's reaction to it all hit the cutting room floor.

Cut - 6 seconds
The airship actually falling into the water and our heroes' reactions weren't shown on TV.

Cut - 5 seconds
This shot of Yveltal and Xerneas staring each other down before Xerneas starts to glow and get all deux-ex-machina on us is too hot for TV.

Cut - 12 seconds
After the Rocket-Dan are revived they have a little bit of banter before ending the whole thing with their catchphrase Ii kanji!  Apparently the uncut version of the dub has Team Rocket spewing out some rhyming nonsense that has nothing to do with anything.

Nyasu:  "It's beautiful nya"
Kojirou:  "Ah, the three of us..."
Musashi:  "...seem to have been reborn!"
All three:  "Somehow, this makes us all..."

"feel great~!"
The dub returns at the end of this pan shot.

Cut - 3 seconds
Back in the Diamond Ore Kingdom, our heroes react to seeing Mega Diancie making a new Sacred Diamond.

Cut - 1 second
This shot of Mega Diancie after she sets the Sacred Diamond in place is one second longer in the uncut version.  Which is kind of weird because it's only a two-second scene to begin with.
